Restaurant "U Svejku"

So, after three wonderful nights in Prague and three unbelievably scrumptious dinners, I wanted to end our visit on a high note. After the excellent recommendation of Restaurant Canto from the hotel concierge, I asked them for another nearby, quality restaurant. He recommended a popular international spot near the Vitava River. I explained that I was looking for somewhere with a more traditional Czech fare. He replied definitively, "If you want Czech food, go to U Svejku."

We walked down to U Svejku and noticed the wood facade building and music coming from inside. The atmosphere was the essence of Czech featuring all natural tables, walls, and chairs. An old man in the corner playing traditional Eastern European polka classics. The lovely barmaids were attentive and helpful.

I sat down and ordered the house draft of Pilsner Urquell, the benchmark Czech brew since the 1200’s. We ordered an appetizer of beer cheese on sourdough rolls. Then, considering it was the last night that I would be in Prague, I decided to splurge and buy the most expensive thing on the menu. The "Peasant’s Plate" featured 1500 g of smoked meats and Sauerkraut all for about $8USD. The meats were simply mouth-watering in their full flavor and marinade. Thankfully, I was able to finish the whole platter and revel in the atmosphere and top-of-the-world memories.
