Piazza della Signoria

The Piazza della Signoria has been the center of Florentine politics since early in the republic's history.  The Loggia dei Lanzi on the left was an outdoor auditorium facilitating public debate of politics.  The famous Uffizi museum is just behind the statues on the left.  This is also the modern-day location of festivals and celebrations.  Michaelangelo's David was originally intended to be displayed here, and a replica stands in its place today.
